Google announced substantial artificial intelligence enhancements for its Search platform at the I/O conference on Tuesday, including upgraded AI models, a redesigned search box, and the introduction of AI agents.
The technology giant is expanding its personalized AI features globally, with many new capabilities becoming available without subscription requirements, marking a significant integration of AI into its core search product, according to the company.
Google’s AI Mode now utilizes Gemini 3.5 Flash as its default model worldwide, following a pattern of model upgrades across the company’s AI offerings, Google said.
For the first time in more than 25 years, the Search box has been redesigned to offer dynamic expansion, AI-powered suggestions, and multimodal input capabilities, allowing users to search using images, files, videos, and Chrome tabs.
New search agents are being introduced, with information agents slated for launch this summer for AI Pro and Ultra subscribers. Expanded agentic booking features will roll out to all U.S. users this summer.
Generative user interface capabilities, including custom visual tools, simulations, dashboards, and ‘mini-apps’ built on the Antigravity platform, will be free for all Search users this summer. Mini-apps will be available for subscribers.
Personal Intelligence in AI Mode is expanding its reach to nearly 200 countries and 98 languages, no longer requiring a subscription. This feature will integrate with Gmail, Google Photos, and soon with Google Calendar.
Liz Reid, Google’s vice president and head of Search, stated that AI Mode has surpassed 1 billion monthly users. Reid noted that queries within AI Mode have more than doubled every quarter since its initial launch.
Google has consistently upgraded its AI models across its various products, and the integration of Gemini 3.5 Flash into Search reflects this ongoing strategy.
