A new open standard called EntityMap launched globally on Tuesday to provide artificial intelligence systems with a structured, factual view of an organization’s knowledge, aiming to address issues like AI hallucination and misrepresentation.

EntityMap allows organizations to publish a single structured JSON file detailing their entities, their relationships and linking claims to source evidence. This aims to prevent AI systems from generating incorrect information when answering questions about businesses due to the unstructured nature of web content.

The standard is currently in public consultation until June 30, 2026, with a formal launch scheduled for July 1, 2026.

EntityMap complements existing web standards such as sitemap.xml and schema.org by providing a structured layer of meaning specifically for AI systems, rather than just indicating page existence or offering on-page descriptions.

The project’s developers stated that the standard is published under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which promotes open community contribution without vendor lock-in, subscriptions or proprietary software requirements.

The initiative is actively seeking feedback on various aspects, including technical implementation, use-case validation, predicate critique, integration ideas and sector-specific applications.
