OpenAI will automatically modify advertisements in ChatGPT Ads campaigns using its artificial intelligence-powered ‘creative enhancements’ feature starting October 30, making it a default setting for all advertisers globally.
This change signifies a major shift in how advertisers will manage and track their campaigns, underscoring the increasing role of AI in optimizing digital advertising efforts for the company.
The system is designed to automatically rewrite headlines and descriptions, translate ad text into different languages, resize images, and optimize destination URLs to enhance ad performance.
These modifications will occur without requiring individual review or approval from advertisers for each generated variation, according to OpenAI.
Advertisers retain the option to disable the creative enhancements feature, which can be done at either the account or campaign level through the Ads Manager interface.
However, the company’s creative enhancements page does not specify how tracking parameters are handled when destination URLs are automatically altered.
It also does not detail whether advertisers can exclude specific web pages from being modified by the AI system.
In a related development, OpenAI introduced a new multi-image ad format in open beta on October 26.
This new format supports the inclusion of four to six square images within a single advertisement.
Multi-image ads will feature a ‘Learn more’ call-to-action button and link to an identical destination URL for all included images, OpenAI reported.
The move to default automatic ad modifications for ChatGPT Ads highlights the growing integration of AI into core advertising functions, aiming to streamline campaign management and potentially improve engagement.
Organizations like SEJ and Shutterstock have previously reported on the role of AI in creative content generation and advertising.
